Coaches are helpers! Members of our ICF Maryland community frequently seek ways to give back or pay it forward through coaching, and our Pro Bono Coaching program provides a venue for them to do so.

Pro Bono Coaching not only provides a valuable service to professionals, veterans, and helpers who might not otherwise be able to afford it, but it also provides an opportunity for coaches to hone their craft and earn hours toward credentialing. Learn more here about how to get involved in this worthy endeavor.

The mission of ICF-MD Community Outreach efforts is to promote social good and positive community change in Maryland through the volunteer services of its members. We are grateful to all of our Chapter members and community members who have helped us live into this mission. Our specific goals are to:

  • Develop pathways for coaches to volunteer professional coaching and related services to Marylanders who could benefit the most and afford it the least.
  • Create opportunities for Maryland Chapter members to develop and leverage their skills while giving back to the community.
  • Raise awareness of the benefits and value of professional coaching throughout the state.

ICF-MD members have generously shared their passion, time, and talent – and collected hundreds of pro-bono hours – in support of the Community Outreach mission.

Coaching in Community

Bringing positive impact to our local Maryland communities, through coaching, is a pursuit that the ICF Maryland Charter Chapter values and prioritizes. Through our Pro Bono Coaching Program and other community outreach initiatives, we are able to leverage the collective expertise and generosity of our members to help our neighbors realize their goals and dreams.

Our Pro Bono Coaching Program is a win-win: individuals, teams, and organizations who might not otherwise be able to access it benefit from coaching, while ICF Maryland coaches and coaches-in-training gain opportunities to develop their skills and earn hours toward credentialing. Through pro bono coaching, we also raise awareness of the benefits and value of professional coaching throughout the state — a third “win!”

Our program is growing, and we are seeking both non-profit partners and chapter members to serve as pro bono coaches.

If you represent a social-impact organization with a limited or non-existent budget for employee enrichment, and your team and/or individual staff members would benefit from professional coaching, please reach out to our Pro Bono Committee team through the link below.

If you are a member of ICF Maryland who has completed at least some coach training, you may be eligible to serve as a pro bono coach. Please email your coaching resume to [email protected]. We also seek Community Outreach Committee members to support the program overall. Learn more and volunteer to serve on the committee at our Volunteer page.

“Having the opportunity to work with Stand Beside Them as a pro-bono coach has been extremely fulfilling. As the son of a 21 year Marine Corps veteran, I relished the chance to give back to the veteran community. Through this experience, I have grown deeply as a coach and recommend all coaches find ways to give back through pro-bono work.”

Stand Beside Them

Stand Beside Them (SBT) has a mission to coach and empower America's veterans and their spouses/caregivers to achieve success at home, at work, and in the community.

ICF Maryland coaches provide pro-bono coaching support to veterans and/or their family members.  As coaches we understand that our support is intended to help veterans or their family members successfully achieve reintegration in work, family and the community. The coaching is fully remote and SBT attempts to pair coaches with 1-2 coachees per year, who are located in the same time zone or state. Coaches must already hold an ICF credential. Coaching will not include providing any mental health counseling or any form of psychological or psychiatric assistance to SBT.

If you would like to give back by providing coaching to members of SBT, please visit their website for more information and/or contact Vicki Jordan, Director of Community Outreach

"Stand Beside Them provides pro bono coaching to veterans and their spouses when they are making the often difficult transition from active military service to civilian life. We are grateful to ICF Maryland and all the member coaches who have volunteered to coach our veterans. You are making a real difference in the lives of these deserving families. Our veteran clients are serious, motivated, hardworking and appreciative.  Coaching them is very rewarding. Stand Beside Them welcomes any ICF Maryland members who might be interested in joining the SBT coaching family, to visit our website and apply."

Loyola University Maryland Leadership Essentials Program

Leadership Essentials is a six-month leadership development program for emerging and mid-level leaders offered through Loyola University Maryland, in collaboration with Leadership Howard County. From December to June, a diverse cohort of 30 to 35 leaders from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors work together to strengthen and expand their leadership skills through intensive one-on-one coaching, in-person workshops, and team-based projects to address the needs of local nonprofit organizations.

ICF Maryland coaches provide pro-bono coaching hours to leaders participating in the program. Not only is this an opportunity to support community leaders on their growth journey, but it is also an excellent way to network with other coaches and learn more about the programs offered by Loyola University. This is also an opportunity to earn coaching hours for those who need them for credentialing purposes.

If you are interested in providing support to this community, please reach out to Vicki Jordan, Director of Community Outreach.
